If you're looking for better feel, ABS is NOT the way to go. ABS brakes typically provide less feedback to the rider. It sounds like you're needing more feel and power out of the system, and with a budget of $1000, you can get much better aftermarket stuff than trying to retrofit ABS onto the bike.
